Supervisor Referrals

Studies show that supervisors typically wait for a crisis to occur before confronting employees about job performance. Although there could be concerns about absenteeism, turnover, workplace violence and rising costs of workers' compensation claims, without a clear avenue to successfully refer an employee, supervisors tend to wait and hope that performance improves.

Supervisor referrals are a cost-effective means to resolve employee problems. Early identification of these problems and an immediate EAP referral can save both employers and employees time and money. Problems are resolved together with the EAP before they become more serious. The supervisory referral process can help avoid unnecessary use of medical benefits, fitness for duty evaluations or workers' compensation claims and can also turn around a situation of deteriorating job performance.
