This proven method called a ‘Gateway’ helps to channel employees into the EAP first as the main access point into their mental health benefit. Since the majority of problems are handled within the EAP the ‘Gateway’ ensures that only the more difficult problems are referred into the mental health benefit.
2.) MANAGED CARE ‘GATEWAY’:
- Gateway is the access point into mental health treatment
- Capitated solution-focused counseling handles about (80%-85%)
of distressing problems within ‘Gateway’ Employee Assistance Program. - Only 15%-20% are referred into mental health network to receive intensive services for severe mental illness.

3.) ‘CARVE OUT’ MENTAL HEALTH DISCOUNT PROGRAM:
Blomquist Hale has teamed up with the University of Utah to create a mechanism where employers can carve out their mental health/substance-use treatment out of their health plan. The University and there local and national affiliate network of providers are willing to sign at-risk contracts to provide services at a set per employee per month fee.
